Golf course is nice and in decent shape with the lack of rain they have had. I feel like they had to be creative with a few holes to get 18 but still very nice. Staff was great. Get plenty of drinks at the start because there is not much around after that.

One of the best golf courses in Ohio for conditions. Great layout for the most part with a few quirky holes on the back. I highly, highly recommend taking any opportunity you can to make this property checked off your bucket list. Paul and the grounds crew do a phenomenal job on this property

Wonderful and challenging course for amateurs right on the shores of Lake Erie. Patrick and his staff keep the course in great shape and offer first class professional advice and fittings.

As a member of a nice country club in Ohio, I’m accustomed to pristine tee boxes, meticulously maintained fairways, and flawless greens. My second visit to Catawba Island Club (CIC) left me with mixed impressions, earning it a 4-star rating for its potential, though it falls short in some key areas.
The course has notable strengths. The pro shop boasts an impressive selection, catering well to golfers’ needs. The views around the course are stunning, enhancing the overall experience. The back 9, in particular, is a highlight—challenging yet enjoyable, with long holes and wide-open fairways that reward strategic play.
However, there are areas needing improvement. The greens had numerous unrepaired divots, which detracted from the putting experience. The tee boxes appeared neglected, with divots piling up and no apparent rotation to keep them fresh. At $85 for 9 holes with a cart, the price feels steep for the condition. The carts themselves lack electronic screens for distance and course maps, and without physical course maps provided, navigation was a challenge for those unfamiliar with the layout—essentially playing blind. The driving range was another letdown, located down a gravel road in a cramped, remote spot that feels like an afterthought.
To elevate the experience, CIC could benefit from better course management to enforce divot repair and improve tee box maintenance. Upgrading carts with GPS or providing course maps would greatly enhance playability. Despite these issues, the course’s scenic beauty and fun back 9 make it worth considering, especially if improvements are made.
