Carnoustie Golf Course is a hidden gem in Port Coquitlam, BC, Canada. The conditioning is amazing. Fairways in super shape and the greens roll true. There are challenging dogleg holes and some easier holes too. You will enjoy your day. Oh and the food is awesome especially the hot dog I had after 9 holes 😋.

Played Carnoustie Golf Club today and it was a decent round but a few thoughts on this one 1. It is definitely not an $85 (after taxes) course…more of a 50-55 course at best but you can always grab a tee time 2. I’ve seen better greens at pitch & putts, so bumpy, sandy or just no grass at all 3. They really need to take care of the sewage issue between hole 13 & 14, just smelled absolutely putrid 4. Concessions was actually nicely priced and hots dogs were good there 5. In a pinch, the course is usually easily available and very challenging (6000 yards from the whites) but wouldn’t be my top course to play 6. Decent drainage, but uneven fairways which makes for a good challenge for footing 7. Lots of distracting noises if not your cup of tea from drones, helicopter and planes oddly, but minor details 8. The tee boxes were extremely hit & miss with many of the par 4/5 tee boxes basically landmines of bumpy/chunked up ground from bad drives…I’d expect that for par 3’s but par 4 & 5’s were odd. Curious how often they rotate the tee boxes (if at all as they always seem to be in same spot when I play) 9. Pace of play was ok…started at 12:10, finished at 4:50…always waiting each hole and think group in front from 12:00pm tee time the same too 10. Apparently this course is not very welcoming for singles. You can't book as a single, and apparently they don't let people do walk ons as a singles either. I haven't experienced the latter myself, but heard from others via FB group that they don't let singles come on

It is close to my house so it is convenient. The biggest issue with this course is that the tee times are 8 minutes apart instead of 10. This along with the fact that it is a public course and you will get people of all skill sets means it will slow down. Afternoon rounds are 5 hours easily. Just know this going in. I have been playing golf for over 40 years. I shoot in the low 80’s. I have never been considered a slow golfer. On my last round we played at 4 hours and 8 minutes, yet the Marshall was all over us from the first hole. He waited for us on the ninth and yelled at us that we were 10 minutes behind. Not only that but the foursome behind us was just on the ninth tee box. Not sure who he is talking to adults like that but I had enough of him and told him to back off. He ruined our play for the next 4 holes. I did bring it up when I finished up. That guy is the wrong guy for the job.
