Hampton Cove Golf Club - Short Course Tee Times

Had an amazing time at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Hampton Cove! I was honestly shocked by how great the hospitality was and how much fun we had on the course. I visited with my Fairway Golf Society ladies, and honey — we had a blast! The course was beautiful, the staff was so welcoming, and the entire experience was top-tier. We’ll definitely be back soon!

Friendly and efficient staff and amazing golf, as has been my experience with the RTJ Golf Trail thus far. Upon pulling up, the staff politely ask which course you are playing and offer to load your clubs. The check-in staff at the clubhouse are friendly and efficient. The clubhouse itself, was very similar to the one at The Shoals, which is warm and inviting, with a full bar and restaurant. Although I didn’t eat at this one, the one at The Shoals had very good pub food, so I expect the same is true here. The golf carts were only a couple days old, and we’re very high tech. I’ve had a lot of experience with the GPS devices on carts, but this system showed a breakdown of the greens in a way I have never experienced. It is very helpful on a course that you’ve never played. The driving range is large and well laid out. The practice greens are very large and specific to the course you are playing that day. The greens on the Highland course had a stimp reading of 10 and the River course was a very fast 13. They are smooth as butter and roll true. It is definitely worth taking a little extra time to practice on the River course practice green before heading to the tee box. On Saturday I played the Highlands course with a 12:30 PM tee time and perfect Fall weather. The fairways were starting to become dormant for the season, but were in terrific shape. The greens were immaculate and weed free. The Highlands course was very playable, but still challenging. The first several holes have some modest changes in elevation, but the back nine is mostly flat with a lot more water coming into play. On Sunday, I teed off at the River course at 8:30 AM, on a chilly misty morning. The starter was very friendly and helpful. I had been told that the River course was extremely challenging, but I managed to maintain just one over par through the front nine. For whatever reason the back nine proved more challenging for me. All 18 holes were unbelievably serene and beautiful. A group of five deer came sprinting a crossed the fairway in front of me on hole number three. I was hesitant to choose Huntsville when reviewing my RTJ options, but I was extremely happy with everything at this location. The state of Alabama can be very proud of their incredible golf trail.

Awesome and challenging experience. Golfed The River course one day and The Highlands the next. Because it was the beginning of March, the grass was still dormant, so I can imagine how more beautiful the course would be in the spring.

Great customer service and friendly staff. Course was in good condition considering they had a big storm the night before. All around another fantastic experience on the RTJ Trail.

Hampton Cove consists of two regulation length 18 hole courses (Highlands & River), along with a 18 hole par 3 course. The River Course & the par 3 course are on the same side of the property as the clubhouse. The Highlands Course is across the road, on the other side of the property, and is accessed thru a tunnel under the road. The Highlands Course does not return to the clubhouse, but hole 9 ends near the tunnel. Played the Highlands Course on 12/30/22. For late December the course was in great condition. The greens had been previously punched, but still rolled true. Although the rough was dormant, it did not adversely effect play. The fairways, also, were in good shape. I have previously played RTJ Trail sites at Silver Lakes, Grand National, Capital Hill, Cambrian Ridge, Ross Bridge, and Magnolia Grove. The Highlands Course, from the white tees, was very playable. It is a great layout, with some water, some elevation changes, some trees, some open-wind exposed holes and great variety in the course layout. The Highlands Course is not as difficult as some of the more higher rated RTJ courses, but it was a blast to play. I was able to play all 18 holes in about 3 1/2 hours, which includes time to stop and take course photos. I did not use the bag drop or bag staff. I just changed in the parking lot and walked to the clubhouse. This was basically due to the fact that the bag drop was not close to the parking lot & I had valuables inside my bag. I came in a day early to make my tee time, and use the practice facilities. The people clubhouse we're very nice and accommodating. They gave us directions to our hotel, made dinner suggestions, and directed us to the nearest supermarket. Making the tee time was flawless. The practice facility consisted of a driving range and several chipping and putting greens. On the day I played, I walked my bag into the bag drop. Check in at the clubhouse was flawless. When I came out my bag and cart were ready, off I went to the 1st hole. At the 1st hole, I checked in with the starter who was a great guy, and off I went, 10 minutes early. Up until this point, everything about Hampton Cove was just as good as all the other Trail sites I have been to. However, the post round experience was not up to Trail standards. I waited at the bar for about 10 minutes before any of the wait staff noticed me. It was not crowded. I was ready to leave, and take my business elsewhere until my girlfriend flagged someone down. The entire wait staff were more focused on other things besides customer service. I will play Hampton Cove again, but will skip my post round beer and trail burger, which is a tradition of mine. My only positive comment about the wait staff was the food was good, and was served hot.
