The Golf Club at Basin Harbor Tee Times

I played in the Joe Sullivan Duck Camp open this past weekend and the course was in great shape. Jason and his crew do a fantastic job. The natural beauty of the surroundings plus a few Vermont brews and even a birdie or two makes for a perfect golf day. Stop by an play a round next time you are in the area. You will enjoy it.

For $113 round with a cart, I was expecting a far more well-maintained golf course. Few sand traps had enough sand and none had been recently raked. The hole design is also very banal with 12 straight par 4s and zero views of the water because the haven’t bothered to trim any trees. Even an elevated green or a dog-leg fairway would break up the monotony.

There is so much to do- golf, boating, games, etc. We were there for a wedding and it was absolutely beautiful!

This was the most overpriced course I have played in a long time. It had nice thick grass but was not maintained at proper heights. The course layout is monotonous with all but app. one fairway just straight and long. Plenty of sand traps but non raked. The uncut grass made it even longer. They want resort prices for a poor course. Never again.

Had a chance to play Basin Harbor on 7/30/21 as I was up in Vermont visiting family in the Lake Champlain area. The property is beautiful and the staff were really nice. I was definitely excited to play the course We had a beautiful- albeit windy - day. The morning saw a lot of rain but sun was out for the entire round. I was really disappointed in the shape of the course. There was standing water EVERYWHERE. The course does not drain at all. If it rains any time around the day you’re are playing, be prepared for plugged balls, sopping shoes, muddy clubs, hard pack bunkers with puddles, etc. also, the course with yardages is poorly marked - although some of the yard markers might have been covered by a 4 inch puddle. The course appropriately didn’t allow for electrical carts so we had to walk 4 hours in this slogging mud fest. The positives are the layout is pretty and interesting and the greens were in solid shape. That said, the course desperately needs to invest in a drainage system. Especially when you are on a massive lake that gets a ton of rain. Sorry for the poorish review but people ought to know. JT
