Do not come here in the winter months. We paid $90 for two of us to play 18 holes with a cart. First off, $90 to play a 9 hole course twice seems to me to be high. That is not, by far, the worse issues. Lots (and I do means lots) of animal feces all over the course. We found very difficult to find an area that did not have feces on the tee boxes. If you could, there was no grass. The fairways were even worse. You could feces on your ball as it rolled after a shot. The only, only good thing to say is the greens were OK. For $90, stay away.

First time to play this course, was a good track, 9 holes with a secondary set of tees so you can get in 18. A little rough so keep it in the middle. Will play again. Staff at clubhouse very friendly. Pars and Birdies!

Played recently, warm-ish day and normal wind. This course is what it is, a classic muni 'Goat Track'. It's a 9 hole layout that plays from sepatarte tees on both sides to keep the distances different on the back nine but that only happened on 4-5 holes while I was there. Pace of play was fine, not a lotta folks out that day.
Tees were overgrown, not very level and the course winds around itself making it a little hard to follow from hole to hole. There's not enough "this way -->" signage for a first time visitor. The greens were typical of a muni, on the small side and not much undulation. Several greens had dead patches in them, so overall tee and greens condition was below average.
The layout itself was somewhat interesting, it crisscrosses a deep, recently plowed, dry riverbed creating some interesting shot choices but the real issue with the course (besides the mediocre greens and substandard tee boxes and OUCH the $50 (!) fee for 18 with cart) was the terrible fairways.
If you miss right, left, short or long basically you're in dirt, populated with extensive amounts of gravel. Makes it sort of ridiculous to play anything off line and dusty as heck too. They try as they may with 'Cart paths only' but you leave the tee box on an asphalt path and suddenly there's 3 or 4 choices of dirt/gravel paths across where a fairway SHOULD be but isn't (gets worse the closer you are to the dry riverbed--flood damage?) and once you're back on the fairways, it's not exactly hardpan but not a whole lot better. Granted it's a dry, high desert environment and water is ata premium, but early in the round I resigned myself to playing everything back in my stance and hitting low bullets.
The gal at the front desk was really nice, but other than that I can't say much positive about the course other than if you're in Alpine there's no other option but drive to Marfa, Fort Stockton or Lajitas. Marfa appears to be about the same quality but cheaper, and Lajitas is 6x the price but 25x the course.
Usually in golf courses you get what you pay for, but in this instance $50 was nowhere near it.

Super cool West Texas golf course! Money goes to the greens and tee boxes, as it should. If you're coming out to far West Texas consider the following trifecta... Alpine Country Club, Marfa Muni (highest course in Texas), Black Jack’s Crossing Golf Course in Lajitas.
