Cobb's Creek - Karakung Course Reviews

Checked out new driving range. It was great. Pro shop is well stocked with logoed merchandise. Staff was knowledgeable about future plans for championship course opening (Spring 2027), Karakung 9 hole (Spring 2028) and Tiger Woods Par 3 (Spring 2026). Said hope to get PGA Tour event in 2031. Got reserved heated bay for $50/hr with Top Tracer. Ball crate was a little cumbersome with slot cut in bottom, had to kindof chip balls up bevel onto mat, no biggie. Range is beautiful with green targets with "bunkers" right in front, added a bit of good challenge in dialing in distances. There is a grass teeing area that i assume they may open parts if there are high level tournaments. Range is all uphill which can play tricks on the eyes and make it seem shots are shorter than they actually are. Probably will try to get on 2nd level next visit which offers a better visual for me. Range could use some shorter pin targets at 50 and 75 yds for chip/pitch as closest was a green at 100 yds. Staff was friendly and replenished balls when needed. Heaters work great and Top tracer tech was amazing, lots of games and courses. Might want to put a "bag drop organizer" in hallway outside bar to store clubs if folks head to bar after practice. Great facility and cannot wait for courses to open. Will be back!

The building itself was worth the visit. The pro shop has a great selection of merchandise. The staff were friendly. I went today 12-17-25 and utilized the heated bay. Very modern with top tracer available tech.

The driving range is open and awesome. You hit up the hill where the old driving range was next to 14 Karakung Tee. Equipped with traxman launcher jawns. The golf course will be one of the hardest courses in the world when it opens.

With one week left before the big overhaul, face-lift, make over, or whatever you want to call it, I felt it my duty to play this course. Cobb's Creek is like a classic automobile left to rust and rot in your uncles garage. Back in the day she was a great hot-rod head turner, but after decades of neglect and disrepair she is just an old relic of the past. But you can't pass up a chance to ride in a classic car even if it needs a new paint job and interior. Yes, I know the course is in terrible condition, pretty much every review will tell you that. I have played much worse courses by the way...it isn't that bad. At this point you don't play Cobb's Creek for the perfect greens and well manicured fairways. You play Cobb's Creek for the layout, the history, and the knowledge that you are walking on the very same footsteps as many a golf and Philadelphia Legend...and it is PUBLIC!! In all honesty, I didn't think the conditions were as bad as the reviews made it out to be. Yes, the third green is finished, and some of the fairways on the front aren't really fairways but extended roughs. But the front 9 layout is tremendous and when the course is revamped it will be a masterpiece of golf architecture once again. Creeks run in, around and even through the front 9. The fairway on the fifth is literally divided right down the middle by a creek. The front nine is a short labyrinth of golf, woods, and streams. It is a short nine and I am curious how, or if, they stretch this out for the modern game. The back nine is a glorious, scenic, hilly affair taking you to the top of the ridge and giving you wonderful views. You have to contend with the contours of the terrain while doing your best to hit small greens. The back is also much longer including a straight but challenging 600 plus yard par 5, and three 430 plus yard par fours from the tips. I'm also curious if they reconfigure the greens. The greens are relatively flat but very with incredibly deceiving slopes which make even short putts somewhat treacherous. Almost all the greens are very small relative to most golf courses I've played making this a shot makers course, not a blaster course. Unfortunately if you are reading this the course is likely closed until 2023. But be patient and get on the tee time list now, because when this revamp is finished this refurbished car will the best classic car in the car show.
