A Day at Sunset Golf Course: More Like a Washout in Customer Service
My recent experience at Sunset Golf Course was, to put it mildly, deeply disappointing. We had booked an 18-hole tee time over a week in advance, eager for a pleasant round. However, the weather forecast shifted, predicting rain to start an hour after our scheduled tee time.
Attempting to be proactive, we called the course the morning of our tee time to see if we could move it up. The gentleman on the phone was beyond unhelpful – he was outright rude, making no effort to accommodate our request. Despite the grim forecast and the ungracious phone call, we decided to show up, hoping to at least get in 9 holes.
Upon arrival, the pro shop staff informed us that we could only play 18 holes, with no rain checks if the weather turned. This policy is frankly ridiculous and shows a complete lack of understanding for customer experience. We could have easily just not shown up for our tee time, costing them revenue from six players on a day where they should have been grateful for anyone on the course.
As predicted, the rain started coming down heavily after we completed 9 holes. We approached the staff again, hoping for a rain check for the back nine, especially since the radar clearly showed more storms approaching. We were met with the same unyielding "no rain checks" response, delivered with a dismissive attitude.
All in all, the customer service at Sunset Golf Course was abysmal, and the staff's demeanor was consistently unfriendly and borderline rude. Their inflexible policies, particularly regarding rain checks, are a testament to their disregard for customer satisfaction. I would strongly advise golfers to consider other options if they're looking for a positive and accommodating experience.
A better attitude from staff would make a world of difference because the course is actually very nice, challenging enough and has some gorgeous views of the river and airport.

It's a fun course that has some incredible views. The layout isn't too overly challenging, but fairways are on the tighter side. Also, the rough can be thick in spots. Played here in July, and the course was in very good shape. Hole 10 is really fun, with the fairway being significantly below the tee box! The course looks down on Harrisburg Airport and it's pretty cool with the planes coming in low and right above you on a lot of the holes. The pro shop and bar are small, though.

The highlight of this course is that it sits on top this large hill that overlooks the fields and river. The first nine holes are on top and the second nine are below. The holes vary in hills, but not too extreme. Very little hazard areas. Price for me was $45 with cart all 18 holes. They have a driving range. The course was way too crowded when I went, so keep that in mind. Had no issues with staff.
