Played in late October. Piñon and valley, the Hale Irwin courses. Boulder was closed for repair till next year. The other William Phillips designed nine got ripped out in 2005. I'm Glad the course is there, the course was fun, with some interesting challenges. Runs through the badlands up and down through the sand hills. Piñon hole 1, 3 , and 6 were cool. I would go again when I'm in the right frame of mind. I don't want to knock an obviously struggling business but the conditions are quite bad. Disastrous. I'm not sure what happened, but the fairways are fried and the greens have bare spots. Lots of damage and bare dirt around the greens that give you a bad bounce. The plus is that the course was totally empty in the afternoon, played an 18 in 2 1/2 hours. It's not pretty but still stimulating, obvious good design. Good for match play. I'm a desert dweller so I'm ready to take some scrappy conditions. Twilight price was great. So I'm hoping that the superintendent has a plan to repair the course? I'm fascinated, how did things go so wrong? Irrigation, disease, labor cuts, drought? Present state feels like something you'd find in case study book, or a bottom ten worst conditions list. It looks like they are repairing the bunkers. Hopefully turf is next. I'd love to read an official explanation of what happened and what the plan is to fix. I would visit just to monitor the rehab. Could be a great spot. I'm routing for you Pojoaque!

Cool setting and interesting/fun design... unfortunately the condition of the course was not good. Now, in all fairness we played off season - Early April - but having been on many courses across the country it's very evident that they need to give the superintendent a much bigger budget. That said the staff was nice.

They are trying to bring it back. Greens are very nice. Fairways are rough yet. The driving range is off mats right now. Liked the chipping green area.
