I visited Profile GC during their public availability, I am not a member. I'll start with some positives.
-Absolutely gorgeous views of the mountains
-Free practice range
-Short holes with generous pars, average golfers can score pretty well
-Average to slightly above average conditions overall
-Reasonable price for 18 holes, very walkable
-Woman working in the pro shop was an absolute gem, as were some of the other staff we interacted with
-Group spacing is 12 minutes. There were very few backups and minimal waiting for the next hole to clear
Now some negatives.
-VERY unwelcoming atmosphere to non-members, I can't stress this enough. I understand it's a "private" course but if you're open to the public at all, at least don't make non-members actually feel unwelcome
-Starter was generally rude and seemed to make a lot of negative assumptions due to our non-member status. We are always a very respectful group wherever we go but were made to feel like rabble-rousers looking to make a mess. "Profile" can probably be taken as a double entendre in this situation.
-Being a 9 hole course, the "back 9" tees were not very well thought out or easy to find.
-Bunkers were very thin, hard packed and rocky
-Many tee boxes were uneven, some in below average condition
-Greens were very inconsistent. They ranged from well-kept to poor conditions. Though none were outright burned, many had so much non-bunker sand that we could see it kick up upon landing on the green
While the scenery around the course is fantastic, I can't say that our visit was enjoyable overall. We were definitely aware of our non-member status, which I can understand to a certain point but also feel that a lot of negative assumptions were made about our group before we even stepped on the first tee box. While some staff were friendly and did what they could to make us feel welcome, other staff did the opposite. We did overhear other groups of members making negative comments about our presence despite no transgressions on our part and, unfortunately, seemed to enjoy continuing the stereotype of private golf course members.
We will be staying away from Profile GC in the future due to the atmosphere alone, which can be described as a mix of the movies Get Out and Midsommar. Other public golfers are, of course, free to form their own opinions if they visit but I'm not able to sugar coat our experience as a whole group. I also understand that the golf club generally can't dictate the behavior of their members but, aside from a few individuals, staff seems to mirror or even set the tone for creating such an unwelcoming atmosphere.
