First off, the layout of the course is pretty fun. It’s challenging, each hole feels completely different. This course has great bones and a lot of potential. However the conditions are really bad. Greens are burnt except for maybe 2 of them. Fairways are more like rough and the rough is matted down weeds. It happens, I talked with the staff and he explained it was just bad luck all around. Mike was the person who helped me, he encouraged me to write a review and be as honest as I could. Super nice person it was welcoming, and the carts are good carts. Overall if the conditions were better this could easily be an incredible course. I most likely will not come back this season, but I would love to see what they can do with it for next season.

2025 - Good course for the price. Yes, there are some patches that need to be looked at, and the course isn't in perfect condition, but you can get in a good round at this course, especially if you're looking for a reasonably priced course in Illionois. Monday's, they have 18 holes, a cart, hot dog, chips and drink for $35.00. That's a steal.
2026 - Wow... When I played here a year ago there was some issues but for the most part we were able to play through it. This year was terrible. Played 12 holes and left. The greens are unplayable. They are all burnt out and you can't putt them. The rough was at least 10 inches tall. If your ball went into the rough good luck finding it. Do not play here, it is a waste of money. The golf shop owner was friendly and genuinely wanted us to have a good day. I'm not leaving this review against him. Now that this is owned by the government, they need to see this and all the other reviews and turn the ship around. It's a disgrace that this is titled a veterans golf course. Clubhouse looks beautiful. Everything else is in shambles. If this wasn't owned by the government it would easily be shut down within the end of the year. There needs to be some serious change.

I honestly think some of the negative reviews are a little harsh. The rough is extremely long and thick and the greens definitely need work, but the course itself is gorgeous and has a ton of potential.
The clubhouse attendant was hilarious, candid, and completely upfront about the conditions before sending us out. They know there’s work to do and are actively trying to get the course back into shape.
We still had a really fun round. It’s a great place to get out, practice with some different clubs, and enjoy golf without taking it too seriously. Come with an open mind and realistic expectations and there’s a lot to like here. I’m rooting for them.

Warning! Do not play this course unless you appreciate atrocious conditions! And this is not hyperbole. Where do I start?
My buddy was desperately trying to find a pre noon tee time on a beautiful Friday northern Illinois summer and this was the only course to have one. Now I know why.
First, the clubhouse guys are awesome. We were welcomed by a cheerful guy, but he gave the caveat that the greens were mostly burnt out because of over fertilization and not watering afterwards. The greens were for the most part brown, dry, bumpy and at certain parts unplayable. We found out some unusual marks on the green that looked like a frustrated golfer, understandably so, took practice swings on the green.
Oh, the rough! Our group lost so many balls because of the overgrown rough. We later found out that the course rough mower was out of order. It wasn't even comical how high the rough was. The positive was that we found a lot of stray balls found in the muck called the rough.
Furthermore, it's the little things:
No water in the ball cleaners. Signs leaning precariously over. Tee boxes that were more like roughs then boxes.
Again the guys are great. However, we found out the course was sold to the navy e.g. the government and the clubhouse said that changes are difficult because of the red tape. They implored me to scan the QR code to leave feedback.
Yah, it was $45 with a cart, but it was not worth it! Don't play here until clear and tangible changes are made! If you do and you read this review and the few before me, don't whine if you play and your outing sucked. I told you so!
